High School ICAP Milestones

Most of the links below are features in Career Cruising, an online platform that Poudre School District adopted in 2017. The video (right) is a quick introduction to Career Cruising, which houses a myriad of useful features to help students connect with post-secondary interest areas.

9th Grade Plan

Career Awareness & Exploration:
  • Document academic, community, and extracurricular activities under “My Plan”
  • Complete the Resume module and create resume and references
  • Use the Career Selector tool to research careers based on criteria and explore results (20 – 30 minutes)
  • Write a My Journal entry about saved and suggested careers and the pros and cons of each. (15 -20 minutes)
  • Research 2 career clusters and document under “My Careers”
  • Attend a career fair/guest speaker/field trip related to career pathway

College and Academic Preparedness:
  • Review the “Grade 9 College Planning Timeline” in Career Cruising
  • Use the Course Planner to develop your 4-year academic plan based on career/college interest and graduation requirements
    • Complete 10th grade course selection using Course Planner and review and adjust 11th and 12th grader courses. (Time varies)
  • Explore school and majors by keyword in the Education section. 
  • Learn about Dual/Concurrent Enrollment/AP opportunities at your school

21st Century Skill Development: Self Awareness & Financial Literacy
  • Student continues “Matchmaker” and completes all 116 questions
  • Complete the “Learning Styles Inventory” in Career Cruising. (20 – 30 Minutes)
  • Understand the importance of goal setting. Document long and short term goals in Career Cruising
  • Learn how to send professional emails to promote communication and self-advocacy
  • Learn how to use the Career Cruising calendar to promote time management and organization
  • Utilize the “Task List” in Career Cruising to manage deadlines and homework
  • The Be Real Game
    • Unit 1: Time Travel: Exploring The Future, sessions 1-6 (9-11 hours)
  
Portfolio Development: (My Plan)
  • Save Learning Styles Inventory and Career Selector results.
  • Save at least one career of interest and a My Journal entry.
  • Save at least two majors and two schools of interest.
  • Add or update hobbies, extracurricular activities, and goals.
  • Complete a 360 Evaluation tool reflection related to your career and postsecondary preparedness​

11th Grade Plan

Career Development:
  • Student completes “Ability Profiler Survey” and identifies 2 career pathways in Career Cruising
  • Student completes My Skills Assessment
  • Career Research presentation – upload to your journal
  • Update resume and references
  • Complete a capstone reflection related to your career and postsecondary preparedness

College and Academic Preparedness:
  • Review the “Grade 11 College Planning Timeline”
  • Complete the “Personal College Profile”
  • Introduction to College Application process/Common App requirements
  • College essay writing
  • Review academic and assessment (ACT/SAT) scores
  • Use the Course Planner to update your 4-year academic plan based on career/college interest and graduation requirements
  • Complete 12th grade course selection using Course Planner
  • Use the Financial Aid Selector to find scholarships and programs you may be eligible for.
  • Complete the FAFSA4Caster, Net Price Calculators, Return on Investment
  • Identify teachers and counselors to request letters of recommendations
  • Prepare for SAT/ACT using Method Test Prep

21st Century Skill Development:
  • Student updates goals based on a career interest survey, education and/or work experiences
  • Complete a budget that calculates future earnings and expenses
  • Complete the “On the Job” module.

Portfolio Development: (My Plan)
  • Student completes a job shadow/informational interview related to their career pathway
10th Grade Plan

Career Development:
  • Start a new Matchmaker and answer 116 question. (30-40 minutes)
  • Click suggested Matchmaker occupations and review Suitable for You? feedback and profiles. (20-30 minutes)
  • Complete one career planning activity and record it in My Plan (attend a college fair, create a resume, etc.) (time varies)
  • Complete the “Job” Interview module
  • Complete a capstone reflection related to your career and postsecondary preparedness

College and Academic Preparedness:
  • Review the “Grade 10 College Planning Timeline” in Career Cruising
  • Use the Course Planner to update your 4-year academic plan based on career/college interest and graduation requirements
    • Complete 11th grade course selection using Course Planner and review/adjust 12th grade courses. (time varies)
  • Complete the School Selector to research schools based on criteria and explore results. (20-30 minutes)
  • Review educational requirements for career matches and search for Schools and Majors in the Education section. (30 minutes)

  • Complete the Financial Aid Selector and explore results. (20-30 minutes)
  • Review and rank saved schools and majors. Complete the Post-Secondary Plan and Personal College Profile. (60-90 minutes)
  • Reflect on PSAT score, GPA, Course Rigor…options

21st Century Skill Development:
  • Update goals and “Post-Secondary Plan” in Career Cruising
  • Complete the “Work Search” module
  • Employability/21st century skills. Review an Employer evaluation example
  • Identify employment resources available to youth @Larimer County Workforce

Portfolio Development: (My Plan)
  • Save Matchmaker and School Selector results.
  • Save at least two schools and two majors of interest.
  • Add one additional skill, one hobby, and one extracurricular activity. Update goals and volunteer/work experience.
  • Add one career-planning activity and attach related files (e.g. completion letter, notes).
  • Under My Goals and Plans, update the Post-Secondary Plan.

12th Grade Plan

Career Development:
  • Student updates resume
  • Reflect on one of the following experiences: apprenticeship, internship, volunteer experience, or part-time work
  • Research or create a LinkedIN Profile

College and Academic Preparedness:
  • Review the “Grade 12 College Planning Timeline”
  • Document and reflect on college visits using the “College Visit Reports”
  • Student reviews 4-year academic plan to meet graduation requirements and career goal
  • Student completes the College Opportunity Fund (COF)
  • Student identifies financial aid resources and college costs based on postsecondary options
  • Utilize the “Application Tracker” in Career Cruising

21st Century Skill Development:
  • Student updates goals based on career interest survey, education, and work experiences
  • Complete a leadership assessment
  • Identify your strengths and weaknesses as they relate to your career pathway
